Handful of unvaccinated students in North Hastings suspended

Over 100 students in Hastings and Prince Edward counties still can’t go to school because of overdue immunization records.

That’s according to Hastings and Prince Edward Public Health Program Manager Bill Sherlock, who says over 500 unvaccinated students were suspended last Friday. Sherlock also points out there weren’t many students in North Hastings who were suspended as a result.

Over 4,400 students were sent home with suspension notices in January, asking that their parents update their vaccination records. Sherlock says it’s important that most kids are immunized in order to protect the spread of infectious diseases.

It’s not too late to get your child vaccinated at the health unit’s office in Bancroft or through your local doctor. Sherlock is asking any parents whose child has been suspended to contact HPEPH as soon as possible to get their records updated.
