Prime Minister Backs Hastings-Lennox and Addington M.P. For 2019’s Federal Election

The Prime Minister says Mike Bossio is the man for the job in Hastings-Lennox and Addington.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will be speaking in Napanee later tonight to announce his support of Mike Bossio, the M.P. for Hastings-Lennox and Addington.

When speaking with My Bancroft Now before the event, Trudeau calls Bossio an “extraordinary voice” for his community. “Ever since the 2015 campaign when we saw he was working so hard at connecting with people right across the riding in terms of earning their vote, he hasn’t slowed down a bit,” he went on to say. “He is a valued and essential member of our team,” Trudeau said.

Hastings-Lennox and Addington was created as a Federal riding in 2014. Bossio narrowly beat-out then M.P. for Bancroft’s old riding of Prince Edward-Hastings 42.4-percent to 41.9-percent. Bossio says the three things that made him want to run in 2014 will be the same reasons he runs again in 2019. He says those are: how do we build a sustainable society, how do we build sustainable rural communities and how do we correct past wrongs of settler people to indigenous peoples. “This still drives me today,” Bossio says about those three reasons.

“We need to level the playing field so our businesses and communities can compete in this global environment and digital environment,” Bossio says about improving connectivity in his riding. “We have got to find a way to think of incentives for service providers to install broadband in our less densely populated rural areas,” he continued.

Bossio went on to say that one project that the Liberal government brought forward is the Canada Child Benefit program, which he says brings $5.9 million dollars into Hastings-Lennox and Addington monthly. That, he says, benefits rural communities, which pushes forward rural sustainability.

“I’m not going to change anything”, Bossio says when asked if campaigning as an incumbent M.P. will be different for him as opposed to when he was a candidate in the 2014 election. ” I hope people see the work ethic and the passion that I have to bring a positive change to rural communities,” he added.

Derek Sloan was voted as the Conservative candidate for Hastings-Lennox and Addington last month. The Federal election will be held in October 2019.
