Volume Two of Heritage Museum’s Cookbook Set to Launch by Thanksgiving

After the “immense success” of volume one, a second one is on its way.

Volume one of the cookbook “Honouring the Woman of North Hastings” sold over 250 copies since being released over the holidays last year.

Chair of the North Hastings Museum board Mary Kavanagh says they continued to get stories submitted after volume one’s cut-off date so a second one is on its way. She says they expect to release it by Thanksgiving.

There were 98 stories in the first volume. “We’re hoping to get 100 in our second volume,” Kavanagh says. “We’ve had an excellent response already.” She adds that a volume three and four is on the table if people continue to bring forward their stories. “Bancroft and North Hastings is a large area, many women lived here and they have stories to tell of their own,” Kavanagh says. “Their grandmothers’ story, their great grandmothers, an aunt or great aunt that perhaps doesn’t have anyone to tell their story for them.”

“My hope is that in 50 or 100 years when people look at this book they’re able to trace their ancestry to one of the women here,” Kavanagh says.

Volume one was done thanks to federal funding from a New Horizons for Seniors grant, but Kavanagh says this book won’t be done with grant funding. It will be done with money raised from sales of the first cookbook.

You have until the end of June to submit your story. The information on where to submit your stories is on the Heritage Museum’s Facebook page.
