Tipping Fees Waived in Hastings Highlands For Flood Victims

Until June 16th, tipping fees in the municipality will be waived for flooding victims.

“It’s something that is a one-time deal for disaster relief,” says Mayor of Hastings Highlands Vic Bodnar.

Bodnar notes that many of the buildings that are affected by flooding were built long ago on a flood plain. “It’s a difficult situation,” he says. “They probably should never have been built there in the first place, but it is what it is.”

He adds that council is also looking into federal or provincial help to cover some of the damage that was done. He was a representative from the province did come to survey the damage. Council is waiting for their response.
