The clinic is being done in honour of four-year-old Bridget who was diagnosed with lymphoblastic leukemia when she was three. Bridget is organizer Cathy Marshall’s cousin’s daughter. She says that they recently have been able to go back home, but had been living in Ronald McDonald House in Ottawa since the diagnosis. “She has had to have several blood transfusions,” Marshall says. “Until you have it happen to you, you don’t realize how important blood donation is,” she says. That’s why she hopes Bridget’s story brings people out to donate blood that wouldn’t usually. Canadian Blood Services tells My Bancroft Now that over 50 appointments are still open. Before signing up, you need to take the eligibility quiz that can be found on their website. It’s suggested that you eat well and hydrate before donating blood. Government-issued photo ID or your blood donor card that was issued to you by Canadian Blood Services is also needed the day of. The blood donor clinic will be held from 1:30 PM until 6:30 on Monday, June 24th at the Bancroft Pentecostal Tabernacle.
