$1,213 was raised during the till drive at the Bancroft Foodland, adding to the $4,758.99 raised for CARE North Hastings’ Meals on Wheels program.
“It helps a lot of people,” explains Program Coordinator Jennifer Postma. The program allowed 10,208 meals to be delivered to seniors in North Hastings, Highlands East and in the district of Nippising.
“A lot of people really have no idea, until you start working at a job like (CARE North Hastings), how many people – especially seniors – are in need in this community,” Postma says. She points to another area of need for seniors in the community: transportation. Through the Heritage Revival Thrift Store, Postma says they are able to fund transportation for seniors in the community. She explains that seniors could need help getting to an important doctor’s appointment, or just to get to the grocery store.
She says that this campaign may be the biggest one CARE North Hastings has done yet. She says they’re usually able to raise between $800 and $1,000 during the Foodland till drive.
