UPDATE: Information has been released on Public Health’s second confirmed case of COVID-19

UPDATE, 03/21: The Ministry of Health says this positive subject was a male in his 20s. They say he was travelling in the USA. He is currently self-isolating.

Hastings-Prince Edward Public Health has announced the second positive case of COVID-19 in the region in as many days.

They say it’s unrelated to the lab-confirmed case that was announced Thursday and the multiple cases that are confirmed at CFB Trenton. “The individual recently returned from travel outside of Canada, developed symptoms of COVID-19, sought medical care, and remains in self-isolation at home,” they say in a statement.

No details were provided by Public Health on the gender, age or location of the person.

Medical Officer of Health Dr. Piotr O’Glaza notes that there are no cases right now that come from people without a recent history of travel.

“The best method for us to combat COVID-19 in our community is to stay home if possible, practice social distancing, avoid large gatherings, and remain diligent with handwashing and infection control practices,” O’Glaza says. “The responsibility lies with each of us to do everything we can to keep ourselves, our families and our neighbours healthy”.

He says this reiterates the need to self-isolate. “Do not go to the store to get supplies, you need to self-isolate right away,” he says.
