The Grocery Store in Apsley is no more.
Reports say a fire has completely destroyed Sayers Food on Burleigh Street. North Kawartha Firefighters attended the scene on Saturday around 12:30 AM, along with Peterborough OPP and paramedic. Burleigh Street was closed as firefighters battled the blaze. No injuries have been reported and no cause for the fire has yet been released.
Mayor of North Kawartha Carolyn Amyotte says meetings between the Economic Development Co-Op, the CAO and the Mayor, as well as several members of the community have been developing a response plan, as Sayers Food was the only grocery store in town. She says those with immediate food insecurity can call the North Kawartha Food Bank at 705-656-1748. Mayor Amyotte says more updates will come in the coming days.
