Learning Foundation food program to continue through the summer, thanks to wave of donations

Due to a fundraising blitz over the past year, a food program will continue to be delivered by the Hastings Prince Edward Learning Foundation.

The Food for Learning program offered by the Foundation was able to be run throughout this school year, despite the challenges posed by the pandemic. During the third wave, Maribeth deSnoo, Executive Director with the Foundation, says all school principals across the Hastings Prince Edward District School Board were invited to provide a list of students who could use the gift cards the program provided. Each student was provided with a grocery store gift card of $50, and deSnoo says because of the fundraising that happened over the fall, they will be able to offer that during the summer to the students in need.

However, due to the uncertainty of the next school year, deSnoo says that there is concern about the Foundation’s budget in the future. However, there is hope that regular fundraising events can resume in the coming months. The Foundation remains committed to making sure that no child in Hastings Prince Edward has to learn on an empty stomach.

The Foundation is currently accepting donations. To get in touch, call 613-966-1170 Ext. 62232
