Bancroft Community Transport receiving $265,000 from Provincial Grant

The Ministry of Transportation is investing thousands of dollars in Bancroft Community Transport (BCT).

The Community Transportation Grant has extended its mandate past 2023, and has provided an extra $14 million over two years across the province. BCT will receive an additional $265,536 in funding from the grant.

Director of Operations for BCT Gwen Coish says the provincial funding has already helped them out immensely, allowing them to purchase new vehicles. This new money, on top of covering staffing and dispatching costs, will now allow the company to set up bus shelters around North Hastings. If approved by the municipalities, the Town of Bancroft, Wollaston and Maynooth will receive bus shelters, with Bancroft itself receiving more than one. Coish says plans are in the works to get bus shelters in Cardiff, Wilberforce and McArthur’s Mills. She hopes that putting in these shelters will increase the visibility of BCT and make it clear where riders can catch the bus.
