Candidates meeting being held in Dungannon, Cardiff this weekend

The voting period for Bancroft residents starts on Oct. 17 and if you haven’t made up your mind there’s an opportunity this weekend to learn more about the people running.

A candidates meet and greet  is being held Sunday at the beach on L’Amable Lake. It runs from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and you might want to bring your own lawn chair and umbrella.

The organizer behind it hopes it will allow Dungannon residents to learn more about candidates who are running to represent them. Six candidates are competing for the three seats available in the southern ward. They are Barry McGibbon, Valerie Miles, Charles Mullett, Dale Anderson, Trevor Stevenson and Mike Van Roon.

The three mayoral candidates, Paul Jenkins, Scott Munro and Michael Anderson have all been invited to attend.

Cardiff residents can meet Highlands East candidates Sunday

Highlands East residents also have a chance to grill their election candidates this weekend. A meet-the-candidates event is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. at the Cardiff Community Centre.

Cardiff is just off Highway 118, west of Bancroft, and part of Ward 2 in the municipality of Highlands East. There’s a two-person race for Mayor there, with Dave Burton up against Cheryl Ellis. Janice Dahms and Angela Lewis are running for the one Ward 2 seat on council, which represents Cardiff.  The current Ward 2 councillor, Suzanne Partridge, is not running again.

Highlands East is using an online and telephone voting system this year, with the voting period starting on Oct. 14 and running to the final election day of Oct. 24.
