Meeting on homelessness intends to get citizens involved in solutions

The organizer of an upcoming meeting to address homelessness says it’s her way of showing that citizens must get involved to find solutions.

Judy Edgar is behind the event set for Tuesday, Sept. 26 at The Village Playhouse.

Edgar says she’s hosting the meeting, as a private citizen, out of frustration that Bancroft has a homeless population year after year and no level of government has completely solved the issue.

“The buck stops where?” she says. “I can’t stand to see a wrong and know there can be help.”

The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. and people who have been involved in past shelters and warming centres are on the agenda to give talks.

Last week, Mayor Paul Jenkins said there’s no certainty that an overnight shelter will be in place in the town by the time the cold weather arrives.
