Hospice North Hastings hiring staff, getting ready to expand

Hospice North Hastings expects to hire a new executive director and nurse practitioner in the coming weeks.

That from Hospice’s board chair Michael Brooks. He took to social media earlier this week to announce that the organization is taking a pause in January, with plans to re-launch in February.

In an interview with MyBancroftNow.com on Thursday, he added that the pause is not just for staffing; it’s also to get ready to expand. A recent provincial funding announcement is allowing Hospice to jump from a two-bed to four-bed operation.

Brooks says renovations for the expansion were recently completed, with patient comfort in mind.

“We want it to be a small, community hospice, where people are comfortable bringing their loved ones,” he said. “It’s like being in your own home; that’s the atmosphere we’re trying to maintain. The renovations went fantastic, and we’ve been able to retain the homey feeling of hospice.”

Hospice North Hastings, located at 27 Bridge St. E. in Bancroft, provides care for people facing life-threatening illnesses, usually at an advanced stage.
