Police in Picton arrest three people in door-to-door driveway paving scam

Members of the Prince Edward County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested three individuals in connection with a door-to-door scam.

On February 14, officers received a report that someone had been approached the day before by someone offering driveway paving services.

The resident requested that the work be done the next day, but got suspicious and got in touch with the police.

When the scammer and his partners returned, they fled upon learning that the police had been contacted.

Officers located the vehicle on Highway 62 and arrested three individuals.

They were not charged but were turned over to a Federal enforcement partner.

The OPP say to follow these tips to avoid falling victim to fraud:

  • Be wary of unsolicited contractors who approach you
  • Do not make on the spot decisions about hiring a contractor
  • Do your research
  • If it’s too good to be true, it likely is
