Students can ‘shop’ for free at Prom Project event in Bancroft

April 25th has just been marked as the day the Prom Project will offer its clothing boutique at North Hastings High School in Bancroft.

The Project provides students with the opportunity to “shop” for formal wear, free of charge, to attend their formal and/or graduation ceremonies.

Until March 31 donations of gently used or new men’s suits, ties, formal dresses, shoes, and accessories are being accepted at Guest Services in the Quinte Mall. Many of these will then be shipped to Bancroft for the shopping evening.

School secretary Nanda Easton, who’s heading up the project spoke about why she’s inspired to create a great event:

“Not everyone gets to spend the day with their mom or dad or best friends shopping for a dress and going out for dinner” said Eastman, “I’d like to make it as special for these kids as possible”

Eastman spoke about ways the community can contribute to the evening:

“In the past, Shoppers Drug Mart has donated recently expired makeup. That and we make up some little gift baskets. Or we’d also take jewelry as a donation so they can dress up their outfit that they’ve picked. When you’re here, we had a seamstress on hand who would pin the clothes and do some alterations.

The event is funded by The Children’s Foundation (TCF) and The Hastings and Prince Edward Learning Foundation (HPELF), in partnership with the Quinte Mall.

For more information or to donate time, goods or services you can contact the high school.
