“My vision was to build bridges” Multiculturalism and hockey at this weekends Opeongo Heritage Cup event

The Opeongo Heritage Cup Hockey tournament is this weekend at the Barrys Bay Arena. The annual event will take start this Friday with the first puck drop at 7pm when the Germans take on The Kashubs.

Local Kashubian David Shulist says he started the event in 2006 to honour people’s heritage in the area.

“My vision at the time was to build the bridges between communities, embrace each other and promote our local heritage through the game of hockey” Said Shulist

This years teams are The German Black Eagles, The Irish Shamrocks, The Algonquin Thunderbirds and The Kashubian Griffins. Skilled hockey players with roots in the area will come from all over to play.
