Bancroft has been one of the hottest places to be in Ontario since a major heat event began Saturday according to Environment Canada.
The thermometer hit 34.1C on Sunday in Bancroft – the seventh hottest temperature recorded in the province during this heat wave.
Ottawa topped the list at 35.1C.
Environment Canada’s heat warning for Bancroft – Hastings Highlands and Denbigh is expected to continue through at least today (Tuesday).
Environment Canada meteorologist Steven Flisfeder said the heat event across southern Ontario is similar to others this summer temperature-wise.
Flisfeder said most other heat waves have only lasted two or three days though, so this one has been one of the longer scorchers we’ve seen.
“It’s already been a hot summer and we’re expecting conditions to be above seasonal through the remainder of August at least,” Flisfeder said.
He said Environment Canada advises taking precautions like drinking water, reducing strenuous activity and checking in with friends and loved ones, particularly those who may be more at risk due to preexisting health conditions.
