HPEDSB looking for new community partnerships

Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board held three Community Planning and Partnership meetings last week, including one at York River Public School in Bancroft.

Superintendent of Business Services Bryce Wilson was one of the facilitators, and said the school has available space for community members and organizations who may want to use it.

“We have our community use of schools program, where it can be individuals, groups whether it’s adult sports leagues, youth sports leagues, senior activity knitting classes or lessons – we offer space available where [the] public can book a space and a permit with us and use the space in our buildings,” Wilson said.

The board does not currently have any new capital projects in the works, but there are renovations and renewals going on at various schools, including at the North Hastings High School gym.

The board has submitted a capital priorities case to expand Susanna Moodie School in Belleville by eight classrooms and bring capacity from 407 to 591, which they’re awaiting approval on.

Wilson said the school board also is currently evaluating what it will do with three empty school buildings in Belleville that it still owns.
