KMM and Town of Bancroft receiving funding for Wàwàtesì project

Kijicho Manito Madaouskarini Algonquin First Nation and the Town of Bancroft are receiving $155,000 from a federal Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Canada investment.

Part of $3.45 million through the active transportation fund, the money will go towards the Wàwàtesì Algonquin cultural discovery project, including rehabilitating one kilometre of the multi-use, four-season trails, and their connecting links – walking paths to two public parks and the Freedom Skate and Bicycle park.

The work will include safety and user experience enhancements, including lights, benches, signage, trail markers, and planting greenery indigenous to the area to promote pedestrian safety, accessibility, and increased usage.

The active transportation fund supports projects that build new and expanded networks of pathways, sidewalks, bike lanes and trails to support affordable, greener, and healthier options for Canadians to access their communities

Funds will support six active projects in eastern Ontario.
