The Muse Gallery and Café in Bancroft will house an exhibit of student art over the next couple of days.
In partnership with the Muse and Maggie’s Resource Centre, students from North Hastings High School created art to be displayed in remembrance of the Montreal Massacre, which happened 36 years ago on Dec. 6.
On that day, a man entered a classroom at the École Polytechnique in Montreal and opened fire on the women present, blaming them for being “feminists.”
He killed 14 women during the attack.
Maggie’s Resource Centre executive director Melissa St Pierre said as more years pass, the further away the tragedy feels, and they wanted to get young people involved in a memorial so the violence against the women is not forgotten.
North Hastings High School art teacher Andrew Edgar said the artwork is almost entirely student-driven and he helped them develop their own ideas of what they wanted to create.
Tomorrow from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. there will be an event at The Muse to introduce the art display, and it will be there for viewing until Saturday.
