BASC launching another year of the tree and shrub program

With spring in sight, the Bancroft and Area Stewardship Council is getting ready to launch their annual tree and shrub program.

Council chair Ian Hendry said the not-for-profit organization sells around 8,000 trees and shrubs every year at affordable prices.

He said the goal is to help local residents naturalize their properties and lakefronts with native species.

“This year, we’re excited to add a butterfly garden kit, to try to educate people on the importance of pollinators in the gardens,” he said.

The kit comes with five native species that help support butterflies through their life cycle.

Hendry said the kits can be a great gift for moms on Mother’s Day.

The trees, shrubs and butterfly garden kits can be purchased on the stewardship council’s website, and pickup is at the beginning of May.
