NHCC closed on May 5 for ammonia removal work

The Town of Bancroft is advising residents that the North Hastings Community Centre and LEAF Centre will be closed to the public on May 5 while ammonia is removed from the building.

There will be no public access, with swipe card access disabled and programs and rentals cancelled.

Town general manager Andra Kauffeldt said in an email, renovations are underway at the building and are being funded through a federal Green and Inclusive Community Buildings grant.

She said work on a fully-accessible washroom began earlier this month and is expected to be complete in around a week.

Removal of the current ice making plant is scheduled for May 4, with installation of a new unit to produce and store ice continuing through the summer.

The renovations also include energy-saving upgrades to reduce emissions.
