Think Turtle Conservation Initiative is raising funds to purchase specialized super glue to assist the Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre team in repairing fractured turtle shells.
Managing director Kelly Wallace said the turtle hospital informed them they are running low on the critical supply.
She added June is the busiest month of turtle season, meaning more turtles will be crossing roads and will be at higher risk of shell injuries due to vehicle strikes.
The super glue is not used on injuries, but to repair damaged turtle shells, and gives them the chance to be released back into the wild.
Think Turtle is looking to purchase at least 84 bottles of LePage brand super glues. Bancroft Home Hardware has offered a discount on the product.
Information on how to contribute can be found on Think Turtle’s Facebook page. More information on Ontario’s turtles can be found at ontarioturtle.ca.
