Bancroft Crusaders preparing for 2026 Relay for Life

The Bancroft Crusaders are ready to raise tens of thousands of dollars for cancer research at Relay for Life.

“We are going into our 21st year in the relay,” explained team captain Druscilla Hannah. “But after COVID, our team has been the only one participating, and we have great local support,” she added.

The all-female team has raised more than $50,000 each of the last three years. Hannah said the fundraiser is much more than a one-day event for her and her teammates.

“We start in September and we go right through to the end of May. We have a bingo, a euchre tournament once a month, bake sales and a yard sale. Here at our store, I have a used book sale, and we do a hockey pool. Everything we can think of.”

Hannah said what drives her and her teammates is knowing the money raised locally will go towards the greater good of finding a cure for the disease.

“We’ve all lost family and friends to cancer and have friends now that are fighting it. We are determined to make a difference.”

The event takes place this Saturday at Millennium Park from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Hannah said there will be something for people of all ages to enjoy.

“We have games and fun for kids, a Lions Club barbeque, live music and a guest speaker who is going through cancer herself.”

There will also be a silent auction, a 50-50 draw and a luminary ceremony at dusk to remember those who have passed away as a result of cancer.
