Update – The Town of Bancroft said repairs to the water system in the Forest Hill Road, Forest Hill Drive and Ridge Road areas were completed yesterday.
Homes in the Forest Hill Road, Forest Hill Drive and Ridge Road areas of Bancroft could be without water on Thursday and Friday (June 25 and 26).
“Emergency repairs will take place at the Forest Hill booster station. In order to complete the repairs, water may have to be shut off or throttled back to residents in the area,” said a notice from Veolia, the independent contractor operating Bancroft’s municipal water and wastewater systems.
Veolia operates the town’s municipal water treatment plant and monitors water quality to ensure it meets Ontario drinking water standards. It also performs regular sampling, testing, and reporting.
In addition to the potential shutdown, hydrant flushing may be required in the area once the work is completed to remove disturbed sediment or discoloured water, Veolia said.
The hydrant flushing could affect users beyond the location of the initial shutdown.
Mayor Paul Jenkins told MyBancroftNow there are two pumps to supply water to Forest Hill, a primary and a backup.
“They are going to install another pump (backup to backup), hence the service interruption. They have ordered a new primary but want to ensure supply with the installation of another backup.”
Veolia also said there is a potential for users in the area to temporarily experience discoloured water after the competition of the work.
If experiencing discoloured water, is is recommended to run the cold water tap and avoid doing laundry.
