Operation Safe Driver Week will enforce commercial vehicle road safety

OPP will increase enforcement and education next week as part of their annual Operation Safe Driver Week.

Police say they will target improper lane changes, following too closely, speeding, impairment and other reckless and dangerous driver behaviours from July 12-18.

The campaign enforces road safety for commercial motor vehicles.

Police say there were 8,826 collisions investigated in OPP jurisdictions in 2025 involving commercial motor vehicles.

Seventy-seven of those collisions were fatal, claiming the lives of 95 people.

Police say whether a commercial or non-commercial driver, collisions caused by unsafe driving behaviours are preventable and road safety is a collective responsibility.
