Ice, ice baby: Town says NHCC will be available next week

The Town of Bancroft says ice at the North Hastings Community Centre will be available on Monday.

The installation of ice was pushed back due to the delay of a part for the ice-making system coming from south of the border.

The situation caused user groups such as the Bancroft Jets to book ice at the Keith Tallman Memorial Arena in Wilberforce.

“We became aware of an equipment delay in late July and immediately shared that information with our user groups,” said the town’s general manager Andra Kauffeldt.

“At that time, we confirmed that we would have ice available beginning the week of Sept. 21.  The piece of equipment that is delayed is a small component that is coming from the United States and forms part of the ice-making plant. There have been manufacturing and delivery delays,” she added in a written statement.

Kauffeldt said the town has procured a temporary plant that has allowed staff to make ice. When the new plant is ready to come online, there will be a relatively seamless transition as the units have been described as plug-and-play.

“There are no anticipated delays or cancellations to ice time as a result of the changeover to our permanent plant, which will happen in the next few weeks,” explained Kauffeldt.

“The rest of the renovations associated with the Green and Inclusive Communities Grant have been completed, including the fully accessible washroom, the new referee change room and an additional small change room.”

Kauffeldt said the missing part is expected to arrive before the end of September and the temporary plant will only be required for about a month.
