Hastings Prince Edward Public Health issues warning over heat

With North Hastings now under a heat warning, Hastings Prince Edward Public Health has issued a health advisory.

The warnings come as humidex is expected to reach into the 40s over the next few days in southern parts of Hastings and Prince Edward Counties. Humidex values in North Hastings are expected to reach into the high 30s. The health advisory will last until Friday.

Public Health is asking residents to be on the lookout for the signs of heat exhaustion. These include skin rashes, muscle cramps, swelling, heavy sweating, dizziness and headache. In extreme cases, it can cause fainting, nausea, vomiting and rapid breathing.

Public Health urges anyone who experiences these symptoms to move to a cool place, drink lots of liquids, and avoid caffeine and alcohol. They also suggest checking in on neighbours, friends and older family members to make sure they are safe as well.
