Online voting shot down by Highlands East Council

The 2018 municipal election in Highlands East won’t have online voting as an option.

It was just one of the ideas Clerk Irene Cook pitched to Highlands East Council.

There was no exact cost for the project, but council thinks it would be too expensive because the municipality would need to buy more computers, and invest in promotion, education, and training.

Instead, about $30,000 will be spent to have votes mailed-in.
