You are being asked to be careful for bears at this time of year

The Haliburton Highlands OPP is warning residents to be cautious of bears on their property.

Officials say during this time of year, these animals are fattening up for hibernation.

If they don’t have the natural food they need, they will find alternate sources of food, like your garbage.

Police are encouraging you to limit the food outside your house by taking bird feeders inside, and cleaning up grease from barbeques.

They say if this isn’t done, bears will continue to come back to your house.

The OPP says only call 9-1-1 if a bear is being threatening or aggressive to the public.20
