As of the end of 2016, Bancroft’s debt is just over $6.7-million.
That’s according to preliminary data presented by Interim Treasurer Arthur Smith, who says $273,000 was carved out in the 2016 budget to put towards the debt.
The town could also step out of 2016 with a surplus of just under $260,000, which Acting Mayor Paul Jenkins says could go up once more information is received. Jenkins says, if there is a surplus, it could be used to offset municipal expenses in 2017.
