Local MP hopeful North Hastings won’t be affected by softwood lumber disputes

The Hastings-Lennox and Addington MP says he is hopeful softwood lumber disputes won’t affect North Hastings’ forestry industry.

This comes as the U.S. government has announced it plans to introduce a 20 per cent tariff on softwood lumber imports from Canada.

MP Mike Bossio says the North Hastings area can produce both hard and softwood lumber, meaning the issue shouldn’t affect it greatly.

But, Bossio also says services and benefits will be made available if these disputes have a local impact, particularly to the labour force.

He also encourages anyone affected by these disputes to contact his constituency office.
