Local organizations aim to advance gender equality with federal funding

Federal funding has been set aside to advance gender equality in our communities, and across Canada.

According to the Peterborough Examiner, the federal government will give the Métis Nation of Ontario over $332,000 for a study to identify the barriers that prevent elected Métis women from exercising leadership in their communities. The Métis Nation of Ontario has an office set up in Bancroft.

The federal government has also announced over $277,000 for the Women’s Sexual Assault Centre of Renfrew County. The money will be put towards a project to help better respond to victims of sexual violence in rural parts of Renfrew County.

These are two of about 50 projects set to share $18-million across the country in the coming years.
