Renfrew County warns you of potentially harmful invasive species

Renfrew County wants you to be on the lookout for an increasingly common invasive plant in the area.

The county says staff continues to get inquiries about Wild Parsnip on public and private property, especially on uncultivated land, roadside ditches, trails, and on rural and residential properties.

Wild Parsnip can be a risk to your health, as its sap contains chemicals than can cause skin and eye irritation, and cause skin to burn and blister when exposed to the sun.

The best way to avoid the plant is by knowing what it looks like.

Renfrew County says it will be working to educate everyone about the hazardous plant, along with mapping and reducing its presence this growing season.
