Highlands East says it wants to support charities and reduce landfill waste.
A presentation was made in council chambers suggesting residents think about what they are tossing away before going to the landfill.
Deputy Reeve Suzanne Partridge says items like old furniture can be donated to a local thrift store.
Partridge says the municipality wants to be progressive.
Partridge adds the Highland East landfills are in great shape, but the municipality wants to be in excellent shape.
