The province is reminding you not to leave your pets in an unattended vehicle during the summer.
The province says the temperature in a vehicle can quickly become hotter than it is outside. Leaving dogs in a vehicle could cause brain damage or death because of their limited ability to sweat.
Bancroft OPP Constable Philippe Regamey says you shouldn’t bring your pet with you if you’ll have to leave them inside a hot car.
Police says signs that an animal is having a heatstroke are exaggerated panting, rapid or erratic pulse, salivation, anxious or staring expression, weakness and muscle tremors, lack of coordination, red tongue and lips, and convulsions or vomiting.
Regamey says there are steps you can take if you see an animal in a hot vehicle.
The province is asking you to sign the OSPCA’s ‘No Hot Pets’ pledge, and spread the word to keep pets safe across Ontario.
