End of June brings drop in local use of social assistance programs

There has been an over sever per cent year-over-year decrease in those getting Ontario Works benefits in Hastings County, Belleville, and Quinte West.

That’s according to Hastings County Director of Community and Human Services Erin Rivers, who says that adds up to 233 fewer people using the program between May and June. Of that number, North and Central Hastings made up about 28 per cent of the drop.

Rivers says those getting Ontario Works benefits have been really motivated to finds jobs.

Almost four per cent of the population across the region is getting these benefits.
