Council votes to pursue water and sewer contracts with VEOLIA

Bancroft Council has decided on which contractor it would like to see take on operating the town’s water and sewer systems.

After months of negotiations with potential contractors, council has decided to continue negotiations with VEOLIA Environmental Services. The decision was made at a special council meeting held earlier today.

VEOLIA has offered the town a contract of just over $3,225,000 to take on these operations for the next five years, which Acting Mayor Paul Jenkins says is the best offer on the table.

The three final candidates were subject to negotiations involving apple-to-apple proposals, where each company put forward its price for the base services the town needs.

However, VEOLIA only asked for $2,800 for additional services. Because this was more than $5,000 lower than the next bidder, Jenkins says it makes them the forerunner for the contract.

Jenkins says he hopes the town will be able to reach a final agreement with VEOLIA by next week, in order for the contract to be officially awarded by October 10th. If an agreement can’t be reached, the issue will come back to the council table in order to look at other options.
