Local health unit recognizes World Rabies Day

Hastings and Prince Edward Public Health is taking some time tomorrow to remind pet owners about the importance of rabies vaccinations.

This comes as tomorrow is being marked as World Rabies Day.

Rabies continue to be concern in Ontario, but Senior Public Health Inspector John Cannan says you can prevent your pets from contracting the virus by getting them vaccinated.

Cannan also says it’s important for you to protect yourself from rabies, which can be transmitted if you’re bitten or scratched by an infected animal.

The health unit is teaming up with the Faraday Animal Hospital to offer a number of low-cost rabies vaccination clinics for cats and dogs on Saturday. These clinics will offer vaccines for $30 per animal. They will be taking place at a number of locations in the area:

– On Highway 28 South in Bancroft from 9:00am to 2:00pm.

– At the Maynooth Firehall from 9:30am until 10:30am.

– At the Carlow Township Garage  from 11:00am until 12:00pm.

– At the Wollaston Township Garage from 1:30pm until 2:30pm.

– At the Tudor & Cashel Township Garage from 3:00pm to 4:00pm.

Hastings and Prince Edward Public Health says these clinics have been running since 1999, and have provided more than 75,000 vaccinations to pets in the region. You can find out more by calling (613) 966-5500, or by clicking here.
