Bossio announces funding to help make homes more affordable

Mike Bossio says new funding for affordable homes will help solve a problem that exists in the area.

The federal government has announced it will be putting $13.2-billion into renovating and building new affordable homes nationwide. The goal is to create nearly 60,000 new affordable homes, and fix 240,000. The MP for Hastings-Lennox and Addington says this is important because there is a shortage of affordable housing across the riding.

Bossio says it will be up to housing organizations and developers to step up and apply for the funding, because the government won’t be building these homes.

The MP says the federal government is also making funds available to homeowners to help save money on energy. The federal and provincial governments are teaming up to provide up to $100-million to Ontarians to retrofit their homes to make them more energy efficient. As part of the GreenOn program, homeowners can apply for rebates to install things like better insulation, high-efficiency vents, and heat pumps. Bossio says he is urging everyone to apply.

Anyone who wants to apply for either form of funding is being encouraged to contact Bossio’s constituency office for help.
