The Town of Bancroft acts as the agent for collecting that portion of the Gas Tax that is available for public transit in North Hastings and area, and at Tuesday’s council meeting, they directed the town treasurer to sign the necessary reports and file them with the Ministry of Transportation. The amount of Gas Tax funds that appear to be available for this year is $38,719. The funds are directed to the T.R.O.U.T. as it is the recognized public transit system. In addition to the tax monies, the Town of Bancroft gave a total of $7,000 and Highlands East Township has given $10, 251. They are the only two municipalities who support the T.R.O.U.T. with cash. The T.R.O.U.T.’s annual expenses run about $156,000.
