Local high schoolers not affected by latest one-day strike

Rotating strikes by the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation will not be affecting teachers and students in North Hastings.

“All Hastings-Prince Edward schools are open this week,” the school board tweeted Tuesday night. “Everyone should go to school as usual.” Teachers with the Hastings-Prince Edward District School Board held a one-day strike last week, which was the first week of the rotating strikes that are happening across the province.

The Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board is one of the nine other boards that will be affected by the second week of rotating strikes.

CBC reports that the union and the provincial government were set to continue negotiating on Tuesday, but the mediator involved told the news outlet that both sides are too far apart to negociate.

A spokesperson from the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association told CBC that negotiations will not resume until the New Year.
