Rob Greer has spent the past 33 years delivering packages to people and businesses through Bancroft, but Friday marks his last day delivering to the town.
The Purolator Courier will be changing routes and delivering to Ennismore. “It’s going to be easier on the body with less heavy freight,” Greer says. “It’s mostly going to be house calls.” Greer works out of the Peterborough Purolator depot, so he says making the near half-hour drive to Ennisemore will be easier than driving over an hour to get to Bancroft.
Now that he will be delivering to houses instead of businesses, Greer says he’s not going to get as much face-to-face interaction as he’s gotten used to over the past three decades. “I’m going to miss that part,” he says. Over the years he says he’s seen the Town change so much, joking that’s he’s even delivered to customers who have had children since he first met them.
Over the past week, multiple messages have been sent to the MyBancroftNow.com newsroom asking if we could get in touch with Greer to pass along their thanks for all the work he’s done in town over the years. When Greer posted about the change on Facebook earlier this week, it got nearly 100 comments from people wishing him well with his new route. One person called the Greer an “honorary Bancroftonian” for his decades of service. The others were from people wishing him well as he prepares to be on a new delivery route for the first time in over three decades.
“It’s going to be sad,” Greer says about the change. He says the people of Bancroft have shown him “so much” over the years. “My heart is up in Bancroft,” he says, adding that the love he’s gotten from residents over the years will always be with him.
“People, just keep smiling,” Greer says when asked if he has a final message to the Town. “I’ll always have a smile for you guys.”
