Changes made to Town of Bancroft’s curbside recycling program

The Town of Bancroft has announced changes to its curbside recycling program.

Starting on September 21st, 2020 all recycling materials collected curbside must be loose in blue boxes. Materials will not be collected if they’re in plastic bags.

“We’ve hoped for quite a while to have a grander plan on recycling and we’re certainly going to move towards this,” Mayor of Bancroft Paul Jenkins tells the MyBancroftNow.com newsroom. He says recycling plans are sometimes dedicated by regional recycling facilities and the market for certain materials and how they’re processed.

“Everybody in the province has been pushing for standardization,” Jenkins says. “We’re not there yet.” He adds that recycling rules are often different between municipalities so standardization is difficult.

With what’s happening in Bancroft, Jenkins says it’s a part of a longer-term plan to get more out of local and regional waste sites. He says this recycling program change is the first step in doing that.
