Mayor of Bancroft hopes to see Eagles Nest Park open by Labour Day weekend

Eagles Nest Park has been closed since the COVID-19 pandemic began as upgrades were being done to the trail system.

For it to open, it needs to be approved by the Town of Bancroft.

“I’m hoping it’s soon,” Mayor of Bancroft Paul Jenkins says on when the park will re-open. While he did not give an exact date, he says the target is to get the park open around Labour Day weekend. “We were initially planning on opening it a lot sooner,” he says. He adds that the pandemic threw a wrench in that plan.

Cathy Trimble of the North Hastings Economic Development Committee says they can’t release exact details on the work that was done on the trails just yet. Over the past few months, the trail system has been refurbished and new signage has been added. On the park’s Facebook page, they say the work that was done was slowed down due to the coronavirus.

Jenkins says he’s excited to see the finished project. He says the changes and additions to the park are much needed and will only enhance what is already a popular spot for locals and tourists to visit.
