Hasting Prince Edwards County has put up money to help set up a warming center in the Town of Bancroft.
The county has set aside 25 thousand dollars to go towards the cost of operating a center. A final location has not yet been finalized. A further $30,000 will be put forward for a similar center in Belleville.
Hastings County Warden Rick Phillips says County staff will assist the town where they can, and connect to other supports to help with issues like counselling and security. Phillips says that warming centers are indicative of the larger issue that everyone is grappling with, and says we need more supportive housing in the county. He pointed to the Home for Good facility in Belleville. He said the recently built 40-unit facility was full as soon as it was opened in April.
