Town of Bancroft Mulls Options on Seasonal Vendors on Public Land

Bancroft Town Council is considering its options when it comes to having food carts in Millenium Park.

Town staff have given two options for consideration: Either open up a permit system so that vendors can use public property over the weekends during the summer.  The other option is not allowing any private use at all on Town land, with the exception of special events. Staff has priced permits at $100 per weekend, or $150 per long weekend, with a $50 surcharge for each if hydro is used. All vendors would need to get a Hawkers and Peddlers licence and pass inspections by both the health unit and the fire department.

Staff will look at setting up a permit system and will bring it back to Council at a later date. The Town says it has said it has gotten several requests from vendors who would like to use the space.  They say while they want to promote the Town as a tourism destination and retain economic opportunities, they also want to be respectful of the work and investments current businesses have made.
