Peterborough Lakers Home Opener

It was a near-capacity crown for the Peterborough Lakers opening night, as they hosted the Brooklyn Redmen last night. All of the Laker lacrosse teams were in attendance for the opening ceremonies, minus the Junior Lakers who were playing Kitchener Waterloo. There was a heart wrenching tribute to 52 year old Mark Evans who passed away during the off season. He’s the uncle of current Senior Laker players Shawn and Scott Evans and father of Turner Evans who played last night. The Evans family has been a part of Lakers lacrosse for many years. Mark was also a goalie for the Peterborough Petes hockey team. The Evans family was presented with a framed jersey in honour of Mark during the opening ceremonies.

The Lakers came out strong and took a very early 4-0 lead. Brooklyn battled back but it wasn’t enough as the Lakers won the opener, 17-10. Player of the game was #88 Shawn Evans. With a new coaching staff, some new faces on the floor and a new major sponsor, this year the Lakers could be a Mann cup contender. Next home game is Thursday June 11th at 8pm against Oakville.
