Back the Cat campaign asks community to raise final $300K for CT scanner

Our community just needs to raise a final $300,000 in the campaign to have a CT scanner at North Hastings Hospital.

North Hastings Fund Development Committee officials made that announcement at the Back the Cat campaign launch event at the hospital Monday.

Committee Chair Kim Bishop said the province has already approved a CT – or cat – scanner; a machine that takes three-dimensional images that helps doctors detect brain hemorrhages, blood clots and other medical conditions.

“We are going to save lives,” Bishop says. “There’s no doubt about it. We’re transforming health care in our community.”

The campaign team announced that $2.2 million of the $2.5-million drive has already been achieved. A sizeable amount of that comes from Faraday Township, which announced a $500,000 commitment.

Bishop says the CT scanner could be at the hospital by next spring, or earlier.
