Bancroft donation helping Little Blue Cabins fight homelessness

Momentum is building for Little Blue Cabins, a Bancroft-area organization that hopes to help the homeless.

The Town of Bancroft donated $1,400 to the group last week. The man behind the project, Kevin Taylor, says the money will help the group finalize its application to become a registered charity. Taylor says the group now has a full board of directors, as is required to become a charity.

It’s also still working to lease land that cabins could be built on to shelter those without a proper home. Taylor says, as the board works to find a location, he’s fielding plenty of calls from people who want to help.

“We’re all in this for the long haul and we recognized that,” he says. “Now, we’ve been getting incredible volunteers; (people who want to donate) funds and (make) in-kind donations.

“We just had a volunteer offer to provide smoke detectors for the cabins. That’s awesome. That’s the type of thing that I believe is going to happen in this community.”

Taylor says what he and his fellow board members share is a desire to help what he called a homelessness crisis in the town. He feels it must be done with compassion, because he believes anyone could find themselves in circumstances where they’re at risk of becoming homeless.
